Comic art, like film, is called sequential art since it seeks to present stories sequentially. It is not a new art form; sequential art appeared in cave paintings, Egyptian hieroglyphics, and Ancient Greek pottery.
Graphic novels have evolved quickly since their origination. New digital formats and technology have allowed many artists to expand on their technique, creating a wider variety of art. The five main styles of graphic novels include: manga, superhero stories, non-superhero stories, personal narratives, and non-fiction.
